MERRY CHRISTMAS click here to go back to latest news It is good to be able to catch up with lots of friends at this time of year. We enjoy reading various news letters and finding out what people having been doing in 2006. We have had a good year with lots happening for each of us (see notes below). We are into our 6th year living in Paisley which is longest we have lived anywhere since we married. Exams are playing a bigger and bigger part in our household as each year someone is taking exams. This year Jo (Highers) and Laura (Standard Grades) were the main ones. They both did very well. We had a good holiday in France again this year - two weeks camping at Le Pas Opton. It is a long journey but well worth the effort by the time we get there. If you want to see some photos of our holiday (and some other photos) follow the links to photos. JOHN … continues to enjoy the challenges of being a local Pastor at Hopehall Evangelical Church. We have had a good year with a church weekend away in March. We have lost some families this year due to them moving away with work but have welcomed some others. John also enjoys his role with SIM as Chair of the Scottish Council and being a member of the UK board which involves meetings in London. Outside of work John continues to enjoy his golf, winning a trophy this year with St Meddans in the summer. John’s big challenge for next year is that he has entered the West Highland Way Race on Saturday 23 June starting at 1am. This is a 95 miles ultra race from Milngavie to Ford William. He has set up a blog to record his training and experience. If you want to follow his progress go to http://west-highland-way-race07-training.blogspot.com/ KATRINA … continues to enjoy teaching hearing impaired children in two Primary Schools. Now a registered ‘Teacher of the Deaf’ she is relieved to have assignments behind her. It was a great joy to receive the certificate after two years of hard work. At present she is learning British Sign Language which has been both interesting and challenging. She enjoys the gym and has the aim of a 10k race in sight. In the summer Katrina bought a new bike which has given another outlet to explore the area – a great stress buster. The children’s work at church has gone well this year and it has been encouraging to be involved in reaching out to the community. JO (18) … gained two more Highers (in Art and Physics) and an Advanced Higher in Maths this year. Jo has begun her 4 year physiotherapy course in Glasgow at Caledonian University. It has been a shock to her system to be up and out of the house by 7.50am to catch the train to Glasgow for her 9am lecture. Jo is enjoying the course and is often seen working out what each muscle or bone is called. Jo is a leader of the prayer team on her FireStarter team each month. Jo’s friend Nicole has gone to Australia for two years to study at Hill Song. Jo is planning to visit her next summer during her holiday. EMMA (18) … finished her year course at Cardonald Collge in June. She had a place for Fine Art at Cumbria but decided to have a year out and rethink what type of career she wanted. She has now decided to apply for Primary School teaching with Art as part of the course. She has kept herself busy with part-time work, visiting schools and her involvement with the children’s work in church. She is also a leader with FireStarters which meets one weekend a month. In January Emma is going to stay with a family from our church in Madrid for 6 weeks and plans to go on a mission trip to Bolivia for a month in the summer. LAURA (16) … took her Standard Grades this summer passing all 8 with good grades. Laura is now studying for her Highers in English, Maths, Geography, Biology and Art. The step up in work has been a challenge and she is doing well. Laura is looking towards applying to study nursing/midwifery. Laura is involved with FireStarters one weekend a month and is on girl’s team as a support leader. Laura is trying to find a part-time job to support her active social life. HOLLIE (14) … has begun her Standard grade course (GCSE). She is taking 8 subjects (English, Maths, French, Physics, Biology, Art, History & Music). She is particularly enjoying Music playing Flute, Guitar & Piano. She has grown in confidence to play in worship groups in a variety of situations. Hollie continues to enjoy FireStarters and Discipleship which means she is away from home for two weekends a month. She enjoys leading two children’s clubs as part of Discipleship….. another teacher in the pipeline? Our families are well. John’s Dad had his hip replaced so he is walking without pain now and is playing a bit of golf again. John’s parents had a cruise on the Mediterranean which sounded great. We enjoyed a few days last Christmas with Katrina’s parents and brothers. It was the first time we’ve all been together for a few years.
